We have extended our mission as an umbrella organization uniting all eye and vision researchers at University of Miami and neighboring academic institutions.
Our multidisciplinary research program covers a broad spectrum, from the most basic investigations into the nature of molecules, cells and tissues, all the way to the development of devices for clinical application. Some current areas of clinical research directly addressing patient care include macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, artificial cornea development and ocular cancer. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life by improving sight, preventing blindness, and advancing ophthalmic knowledge through compassionate patient care and innovative research.īascom Palmer’s scientists and physician-investigators actively search for the causes, preventive measures and most effective treatments for diseases and disorders of the eye. Bascom Palmer Eye Institute serves as the Department of Ophthalmology for the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in Miami, Florida.
